What Does Professional Fencing Installation Include?
Professional fencing installation covers everything from removing your old fence to installing new posts, panels, gravel boards, and gates — built to withstand decades of Scottish weather. We handle boundary fencing, garden fencing, security fencing, and decorative screening for residential and commercial properties.
Fencing is for homeowners who need privacy, security, wind protection, or a clean boundary line. Whether you're replacing storm-damaged panels, upgrading from a tired fence, or installing new fencing on a boundary with no existing structure, professional installation ensures it's done right.
You need professional fencing when your existing fence is leaning, rotting, or has been blown down by wind. New-build properties often have no fencing at all, and garden renovations frequently require new boundaries. Fencing is also essential after tree removal when root systems have displaced existing posts.
Professional installation matters because fence longevity depends on post installation. Posts set in shallow holes, without concrete, or in waterlogged ground will lean within 18 months. We set every post in postcrete or concrete, at the correct depth, with proper alignment — so your fence stands straight and strong for 15–20 years.

Don't Wait Until It's Too Late
The Hidden Costs of Ignoring Your Fencing
A broken or leaning fence isn't just an eyesore — it's a security vulnerability. Open boundaries allow access to your property, put children and pets at risk, and remove your privacy from neighbours and passers-by. Insurance companies may question claims if a break-in occurs through a compromised boundary.
Storm damage to fencing is one of the most common property issues in the Glasgow area. Westerly winds regularly gust above 60mph, and fences with shallow posts, rotten timber, or poor panel fixings are the first casualties. Each storm event weakens surviving panels further, turning a single-panel repair into a full replacement.
Rotten fence posts are invisible until the fence falls. By the time you notice leaning, the post is already compromised below ground level. Replacing individual posts in an old fence often costs nearly as much as a new installation, because the remaining panels are rarely in good enough condition to reuse.
Boundary disputes are another hidden cost. An incorrectly positioned fence can lead to legal disputes with neighbours, surveyor fees, and the cost of moving the fence to the correct boundary line. We verify boundary lines before installation, preventing these issues entirely.
How It Works
Our Proven Fencing Process
Step 1
Free Site Survey
We measure the boundary, check ground conditions, identify any obstacles (tree roots, slopes, drainage), and discuss style and material options. You receive a clear, itemised quote.
Step 2
Material Selection
Choose from close-board, lap panel, slatted, composite, or metal fencing. We advise on the best option for your exposure, style preference, and budget. We supply all materials.
Step 3
Old Fence Removal
We remove your existing fence, including posts, concrete, gravel boards, and debris. Everything is cleared from site — included in the price.
Step 4
Post Installation
New posts are set in concrete at the correct depth and spacing. We use treated timber or concrete posts depending on your preference. Every post is checked for plumb and alignment.
Step 5
Panel Fitting & Finishing
Panels, gravel boards, and capping are installed. Gates are hung and adjusted. The completed fence is inspected for alignment, stability, and finish.
The Oaklands Advantage
Why Homeowners Choose Us for Fencing
Immediate Privacy & Security
New fencing provides an instant boundary that keeps your family, pets, and property secure. No more exposed gardens or open access points.
Built to Survive Scottish Storms
We set posts in concrete at minimum 600mm depth and use fixings rated for high wind exposure. Our fences don't blow down in the first gust.
Old Fence Removed at No Extra Cost
Removal and disposal of your existing fence is included in every quote. We don't leave old posts in the ground or pile debris in your garden.
Straight, Level, Professional Finish
Every post is checked for plumb. Every panel is level. String lines and laser levels ensure a straight, uniform fence line — not the wonky DIY look.
15–20 Year Lifespan
Treated timber fencing installed on proper foundations lasts 15–20 years. Composite and metal fencing lasts 25+ years. We build fences that outlast the competition.
5-Year Workmanship Guarantee
If any element of our installation fails due to workmanship within 5 years, we come back and fix it at no charge.
In-Depth
Fencing — What You Need to Know
Close-Board Fencing
Close-board (also called feather-edge) fencing is the strongest and most wind-resistant timber fence type. Individual boards are nailed to horizontal rails, overlapping to create a solid, robust barrier. Unlike pre-made panels, close-board fencing can follow changes in ground level without stepping.
We use pressure-treated softwood or hardwood boards, fixed to arris rails with galvanised nails. Posts are either timber (concreted in) or slotted concrete posts for maximum longevity. Close-board is the preferred choice for exposed, windy sites across Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire.

Lap Panel & Overlap Fencing
Lap panel fencing is the most popular residential fence type. Pre-made panels slot between timber or concrete posts, with gravel boards along the bottom to prevent contact with wet ground. It's cost-effective, provides good privacy, and is straightforward to replace if a single panel is damaged.
We use heavy-duty, pressure-treated panels — not the lightweight budget panels that split in the first storm. Combined with concrete or treated timber posts and concrete gravel boards, our lap panel installations deliver reliable performance year after year.

Composite & Slatted Fencing
Composite fencing combines wood fibres with plastic polymers to create a material that won't rot, warp, split, or need painting. It's virtually maintenance-free and available in a range of modern colours and woodgrain finishes. Composite fencing lasts 25+ years.
Slatted fencing (both timber and composite) creates a contemporary, architectural look with horizontal boards spaced to allow partial visibility and airflow. It's popular for modern gardens, seating areas, and commercial premises. We install slatted screens on aluminium or timber frameworks for a clean, professional finish.

Gates & Access Points
Every fencing installation should include properly hung gates. We install pedestrian gates, double gates, and driveway gates in timber, composite, and metal. Gates are hung on heavy-duty hinges with adjustable latches and drop bolts where needed.
Gate posts receive additional concrete and bracing to handle the weight and repeated opening/closing stress. We ensure gates swing freely, close securely, and align with the fence line. Poorly hung gates are one of the most common fencing complaints — we prevent this with proper installation.

Got Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions About Fencing
How much does fencing cost in Glasgow?
Standard 6ft close-board or lap panel fencing typically costs £60–£90 per metre, including posts, panels, gravel boards, and installation. The price varies based on access, ground conditions, and fence type. We provide free, detailed quotes.
How long does fence installation take?
An average garden fence (15–25 metres) takes 1–2 days. Larger properties or difficult terrain may take 3 days. We'll confirm the timeline in your quote.
Do you remove old fencing?
Yes. Removal and disposal of your existing fence — including posts and concrete — is included in every quote at no extra charge.
What's the best fencing for windy areas?
Close-board fencing is the most wind-resistant option. The individual boards flex under pressure rather than catching wind like a solid panel. For extremely exposed sites, we also recommend slatted designs that allow wind to pass through.
How deep do you set fence posts?
We set posts at a minimum depth of 600mm (2 feet) in concrete. For 6ft fences, we use 8ft posts sunk 2ft into the ground. This depth provides the stability needed to resist high winds.
Timber or concrete posts — which is better?
Concrete posts last longer (50+ years) and never rot. Timber posts offer a more traditional look and are easier to replace. We recommend concrete posts for most installations, with timber for aesthetic-focused gardens.
Do you install gates as well?
Yes. We install matching pedestrian and double gates with every fencing project. Gates are hung on heavy-duty hinges and properly adjusted for smooth operation.
Can you fence on a slope?
Yes. We use stepped panels on slopes or close-board construction that follows the gradient smoothly. We'll recommend the best approach based on your specific terrain.
What guarantee do you offer on fencing?
We provide a 5-year workmanship guarantee on all fencing installations. This covers post stability, panel fixing, and gate operation.
Which areas do you cover for fencing?
We install fencing across Glasgow, Dumbarton, Clydebank, Paisley, Bearsden, Milngavie, Helensburgh, Bishopbriggs, Renfrew, Alexandria, Erskine, Kirkintilloch, and surrounding areas.
